Ángulo entre dos rectas

El ángulo entre dos rectas
r
y
s

\alpha
,
\pi - \alpha
.

Imagen:anguloRectas.png

El ángulo entre dos rectas
r
y
s
cuyos vectores directores son, respectivamente,
\mathbf{u}
  y
\mathbf{v}
,   se puede calcular con la siguiente fórmula:

\cos \left( \, \widehat{r,s} \, \right) = \frac{\left| \, \mathbf{u} \cdot \mathbf{v} \, \right|}{\left| \, \mathbf{u} \, \right| \cdot \left| \, \mathbf{v} \, \right|}}

r
y
s
.

En la fórmula anterior
\mathbf{u} \cdot \mathbf{v}
  denota el producto escalar de los vectores
\mathbf{u}
y
\mathbf{v}
.

Ejemplo

r:
\left\{
</p>
<pre> \begin{array}{ll}
   0 = & x - 2y + 3z
   \\
   0 = & 2x - y + 4
 \end{array}
</pre>
<p>\right.

y

s: \left( \, x, \, y, \, z \, \right)  = \left( \, 3, \, 2, \, -5 \, \right) + t
\cdot \left( \, 1, \, -1, \, 2 \, \right)

La recta
r
\pi_1
de ecuación
</p>
<pre>   0 = x - 2y + 3z
</pre>
<p>   y el plano
\pi_2
de ecuación
0 = 2x - y + 4
).

Un vector director
\mathbf{v}
de la recta
s
es el vector que multiplica al parametro
t
en su ecuación, es decir:

\mathbf{v} =  \left( \, 1, \, -1, \, 2 \, \right)

Podemos obtener un vector director
\mathbf{u}
de la recta
r
multiplicando vectorialmente un vector perpendicular al plano
\pi_1
por un vector perpendicular al plano
\pi_2
.

Un vector
\mathbf{n}_1
perpendicular al plano
\pi_1
\pi_1
:

\mathbf{n}_1 = \left( \, 1, \, -2, \, 3 \, \right)

De la misma forma obtenemos un vector
\mathbf{n}_2
perpendicular al plano
\pi_2
:

\mathbf{n}_2 = \left( \, 2, \, -1, \, 0 \, \right)

El producto vectorial de ambos vectores,
\mathbf{n}_1
y
\mathbf{n}_2
es

\mathbf{u} =
\left|
</p>
<pre> \begin{array}{ccc}
   \mathbf{i} & \mathbf{j} & \mathbf{k}
   \\
   1 & -2 & 3
   \\
   2 & -1 & 0
 \end{array}
</pre>
<p>\right| = \left( \, 3, \, 6, \, 3 \, \right)

donde

\begin{array}{ll}
</p>
<pre> \mathbf{i} & = \left( \, 1, \, 0, \, 0 \, \right)
 \\
 \mathbf{j} & = \left( \, 0, \, 1, \, 0 \, \right)
 \\
 \mathbf{k} & = \left( \, 0, \, 0, \, 1 \, \right)
</pre>
<p>\end{array}

El ángulo que forman las rectas
r
y
s
es, por tanto

\mathrm{arc} \cos \frac{\left| \, \mathbf{u} \cdot \mathbf{v} \, \right|}{\left| \, \mathbf{u} \, \right|
</p>
<pre> \cdot \left|  \, \mathbf{v}  \, \right|} =  \mathrm{arc} \cos  \frac{\left| \,
   \left( \, =
     1, \,  -1, \, 2  \, \right) \cdot \left(  \, 3, \,  6, \, 3 \,  \right) \,
 \right|}{\sqrt{1^2 + \left( \, -1 \,  \right)^2 + 2^2} \cdot \sqrt{3^2 + 6^2 +
   3^2}} = \mathrm{arc} \cos \frac{1}{6} = 1.40 \text{ radianes}
</pre>
<p>

Ángulo entre dos planos

El ángulo que forman dos planos
\pi_1
y
\pi_2
cuyos vectores normales son, respectivamente,
\mathbf{n}_1
y
\mathbf{n}_2
es igual al ángulo que forman
\mathbf{n}_1
y
\mathbf{n}_2

\frac{\left| \, \mathbf{n}_1 \cdot \mathbf{n}_2 \,  \right|}{\left| \, \mathbf{n}_1 \,  \right| \cdot \left| \, \mathbf{n}_2 \, \right|}}

Ejemplo

\begin{array}{lll}
\pi_1: 2x - y + z & = & 1
\\
\pi_2: -x + 2y - z & = & 3
\end{array}

Sus vectores normales son, respectivamente:

\begin{array}{ll}
</p>
<pre> \mathbf{n}_1 & = \left( \, 2, \, -1, \, 1 \, \right)
 \\
 \mathbf{n}_2 & = \left( \, -1, \, 2, \, -1 \, \right)
</pre>
<p>\end{array}

Así

\frac{\left|   \,  \mathbf{n}_1   \cdot  \mathbf{n}_2   \,   \right|}{\left|  \,
</p>
<pre>   \mathbf{n}_1 \, \right| \cdot \left| \, \mathbf{n}_2 \, \right|}}
</pre>
<p>=
\frac{\left| \left( \,  2, \, -1, \, 1 \, \right) \cdot  \left( \, -1, \, 2,
</p>
<pre>   \,  -1 \, \right)  \right|}{\left| \,  \left( \,  2, \,  -1, \,  1 \,\right)
</pre>
<p>\right| \cdot \left| \left( \, -1, \, 2, \, -1 \, \right) \right|}} = \frac{-5}{6}
</p><p>

\mathrm{arc} \cos \left( \, \frac{-5}{6} \, \right) = 2.56  \text{ radianes}

Ángulo entre una recta y un plano

El ángulo
\alpha
que forma una recta
r
cuyo vector director es
\mathbf{u}
y un plano
\pi
cuyo ángulo normal es
\mathbf{n}
es complementario al ángulo que forman
r
y
\mathbf{n}
.

Por lo tanto, se tiene que

\cos \left( \, 90 - \alpha \, \right) =
\frac{\left| \, \mathbf{n} \cdot \mathbf{u} \, \right|}{\left| \, \mathbf{n} \, \right| \cdot \left| \, \mathbf{u} \, \right|}}

Ejemplo

Calculemos el ángulo
\alpha
entre el plano
\pi
de ecuación:

0 = x + y + z

y la recta
r
de ecuación:

\frac{x - 1}{2} = \frac{y + 4}{3} = \frac{z}{4}

Un vector director de
r
es
\left( \, 2, \, 3, \, 4 \, \right)
  y un vector normal de
\pi
es
\left( \, 1, \, 1, \, 1 \, \right)
,   por lo tanto:

\cos \left( \, \pi - \alpha \, \right) = \frac{\left( \, 1, \, 1, \, 1 \,
</p>
<pre> \right)\cdot \left( \, 2, \, 3, \,  4 \, \right)}{\left|  \left( \, 1, \, 1,
     \, 1 \, \right) \right| \cdot \left| \left( \, 2, \, 3, \, 4 \, \right)
 \right|} = \frac{9}{\sqrt{87}}
</pre>
<p>

\alpha = \pi - \mathrm{arccos} \left( \, \frac{9}{\sqrt{87}} \, \right) = 2.88 \text{ radianes}
